Happy Monday, my dears!
While y'all are gallivanting all over town, I'm here at dear CMS about to begin a day of professional development! I'm looking forward to seeing my smiling students tomorrow!
I wanted to extend a GIANT thank you to all of the students who were able to make it to Saturday's book festival in spite of rain and general busy-ness. It was such a great experience to see CMS students so engaged in literary conversation with a real, live author--whose work they've read and enjoyed. I was extremely impressed by the caliber of questions asked by our CMS seventh graders, and I know Mr. Rothwell is proud as well. I hope that many of you were able to find some great book bargains too! I bought about 15 myself, plus a few good-looking selections for our classroom library.
At the end of Mrs. Connor's talk, she said to me, "You are a very lucky teacher to have these kids for your students." I quite agree.
Thank you for being wonderful! Don't forget--your next SRC is due TOMORROW!!! Don't be late! If you need a copy of the alternate assessment list, you can find it in the Scholastic Reading Counts menu on this website.
Happy Reading!
Miss Whitman

6-Word Memoirs...
Today I challenged my students to create memoirs that were only six words long. I asked them to be very deliberate about the words they chose, and to come up with a statement that expressed who they were. Here are a few of their creations...
